Sizzling Hot Jazz and Cool White Horses

RosaPen Llyn held it's own version of Jubilee weekend celebrations in June 2012 in it's indoor school as a charity event in aide of the Wales Air Ambulance. Louise Courtnage, long time livery at Pen llyn, owner of Litri and Dora and Wales Air Ambuance fundraiser and Marcia Pendlebury organised the event. Marcia, as well as being co-proprietor at Pen llyn, is a Jazz singer and had long held a dream that the horses would perform to live music to create a unique & harmonious performance. Musicians from Manchester included a first class classical guitarist, Paul Hartley but also his violinist daughter, Rosa, a BBC Young Musician of the Year.

Jan and UivadorVenetianThe evening constisted of a freestyle performance by Janine on Uivador Da Broa, an improvised, on the spur of the moment riding display, reacting to the music (very arty) with a solo guitarist playing something suitably Iberian, a short display of tricks and the fabulous quadrille in 18th century court dress with Venetian masks performed by Lucy Rimmington, Josh Hewitt, Katie Lyons and Kerry Evans to Vivaldi’s Four Seasons beautifully played by Rosa on violin.

The equine part of the evening was followed by a bbq supper enjoyed in our 'bistro', complete with red tablecloths & very retro candles in wine bottles, with sizzling hot jazz, an amusing & entertaining MC who helped the auction & raffle go with a bang. Even the weather was fairly kind.

Over 100 people enjoyed a spell-binding display of horsemanship accompanied by virtuoso musical performances, rarely seen anywhere, let alone remote North Wales! All in all, over £2k was raised with a little support from Barclays Bank too. A truly amazing & memorable evening, enjoyed by many. Horses, not a hoof out of place, musicians note perfect and Marcia, an ambition achieved. For Wales Air Ambulance, 2 ‘shouts’ almost paid for. With the ever present possibility, as riders, that anyone might need the emergency service at any timeAir Ambulance, we were delighted with the amount raised. Very many thanks to the whole Pen Llyn team, customers, owners, friends & supporters from far & wide, we all pulled together & so much was achieved……..we were left with an immaculate yard too!!
